Razor Smith

Hi Everyone, Wondered if anyone can help? I have an ancestor living in Sheffield for the 1841 & 1851 census. his profession is listed as 'Razor Smith'. By 1861 he is a Publican. What was a Razor Smith? My thoughts are either a Razor Maker (being in Sheffield, steel and all that) or a Barber? Can any...

Getting Started - now available in Paperback

Hi Just to let you all know what it's like as I've just received my copy. Ordered via paypal on the 15th, received an email on the 24th to say it had been dispatched (UPS). Unfortunately UPS sent it to the wrong depot and as I'd had it sent to work address I eventually got hold of it on Monday 28th....

dvd as a presentation

Hi David, ProShow Gold takes some beating, by Photodex Corp. I use it to supply dvd slideshows of weddings I've photographed. You can add music, change the timing of slides and transitions plus all the usual stuff like adding text and titles etc. Good value and support at around £35 as a download. T...

Cause of Death

Hi,

I've just received the death certificate for my Gt Gt Grandfather who died in 1862 aged 66. Cause of death is 'Disease of the Brain'. Does anyone have any ideas what this would encompass back in 1862?
Is there a website that explains this sort of thing?

Thanks
Gary

Arthur appears twice in one census

I have a similar situation, except the whole family appears twice. Firstly James (ship keeper), Eliza and their 3 sons are to be found in Chatham Kent (RG9-481-38-18). Then again they all appear on board HMS Plover. James is now an Able Seaman. (RG9-4479-7-11). Not only that but their ages are also ...

Xmas Presents

Hi,

Why not try Famtree, I used it for many years before moving to FH. Free download (limited to 50(?) people) but registration is only £10. Can also print charts.
Well worth the money.

Downloading Custom Queries/Reports

When I went to download some queries/reports I found FH did not have the custom folders, I created them within the Queries and Reports folders, and downloaded the files to them successfully. But when I start FH the 'custom reorts' dialogue is . What am I doing wrong?
