Unofficial change of surname
I've tried the various methods and found there is no problem entering the details into Family Historian. However, all have some disadvantage when data is viewed in diagram form. When the father is made the root of the diagram, either the child's box does not appear alongside the 2 families of his fi...

Unofficial change of surname
Thanks Adrian. I wasn't using the word 'correct' in a judgmental way, but simply to indicate that the child was baptised with a Christian name linked to the surname of his mother. I think most people would accept (probably expect) that a baptised child would normally stick with these names throughou...

Unofficial change of surname
A woman has an illegitimate baby and baptises the child with an unusual Christian name and her own surname. A few months later, the woman marries a man with the same unusual Christian name. From then on, through 3 censuses and his own marriage, the child uses the surname of the man she married. It i...

How do I change parents?
For years I've attributed a child to the wrong mother, due to an error in the bap register. I thought Thomas was Margaret's son when, in fact, he was the son of her sister Ellen. Can anybody tell me the easiest way to transfer Thomas (and his subsequent family) to be descendants of Ellen? Ged ID:4209

Text Schemes
Thanks for your reply, Jane. I understand what you are saying but I don't understand why some schemes use more lines in the boxes than there are in the template. For example, Scheme 'Name, Birth, Marr, Death' inserts 4 lines of text in the boxes, which are filled right down to the bottom (when all f...

Text Schemes
Many of the text schemes (eg Name, Birth, Marr, Death & Places (abbr)) have a large space under the text, enough for another line of text with space to spare. This is in the boxes where all the fields contain data. It is the same when a custom made template is created from scratch. On a large diagra...

ID Numbers
Is it possible to produce a report (eg Indiv Summary Report)in which the Record ID Nos of an individual's parents and children are also included, possibly in brackets after their names? This would make it easier to trace the correct persons when flitting through printed reports, especially when ther...
