Reinstalling FH
Hi, just had to re-install FH from fresh onto a new PC and I was wondering whether anyone knew where FH stored any customisations made to settings, such as columns added to record view, etc.
Would be nice if I could restore those from my old disk, if possible.
TIA

Relation Diagram
Hmmm, finding the common ancestors is easy enough. Finding the ancestors that are direct descendants of those common ancesters and only back to the two individuals concerned, appears a little trickier within the same query.
Anyone have any suggestions please?

Relation Diagram
If you want to do a diagram you could turn off the branches you don't need and use the mark function to show the linking boxes in a different colour. Not really practical with the example I've just been asked about, where I am a 3rd cousin 3 times removed and there are numerous large families linki...

Duplicate Individuals and Families
Thanks, must have missed it or mistyped my search, since a search on the wish-list for 'duplicates' is the second thing I did after searching the forum ;) Anyway, voted for it. Not sure the query will be very helpful, since I don't know which potential duplicates I'm searching for. Also imagine you ...

Relation Diagram
Occasionally I get a query from someone, asking how we are related. What would be ideal is to send them a diagram showing only the individuals that figure in the connection, back up to the common ancestors. Any one have a way to do this please, without creating a copy gedcom and deleting out indivua...

Colour in Report Fonts
Can't immediately see this and I don't think the wish-list item on Font formats and options applies to reports. If it doesn't then colour coding of text for reports would be great, so we can colour names, dates, line separators, places, etc. in different colours for easy-on-the-eye(tm) identificatio...

Window Sizes
Looking through the Wish List, I see the following: 1. Work With Data Windows to remember size and location 2. Windows and columns to 'remember' positions and sizes Item 2 appears to be marked as completed in 2.2, although I confess that I do not understand why 'remember' is quoted. Perhaps there is...

Shortcut key to add to current list
Well, that's good news. Thanks. Didn't see it in the manual, or in the help file, and the tooltip on the 'Add to Current List' button does not allude to it.

Gedcom to HTML?
I use TNG. Requires PHP and mySQL, but I am very happy with it, for the modest cost. Support is very good.

A shortcut key to add/remove the current record window entry to/from 'the current list' would be pretty handy.

File Stats
A summary of file stats would be nice. A single point that would display totals for each record type (Individuals, Families, Sources, etc.) along with other interesting stats such as earliest birth date, longest lived, average lifespan, largest and average family sizes, number of generations, etc. E...

Unlinking
Hmmm, quite right. I just tested it. Seems I was stuck in the FTM way of doing things, so I was clearly missing a trick. The children are left with the spouse that is being unlinked FROM, so one simply has to unlink the spouse that you wish to have the children removed from. Perhaps if the descripti...

Unlinking
Another thing that I'm having a little trouble with is unlinking individuals. In particular when unlinking spouses. Again FTM used to offer me a choice of taking children with the unlinked spouse, whereas in FH it seems that you have to unlink the children, unlink the spouse, and then relink childre...

Duplicate Individuals and Families
I can't see any easy way to identify possible duplicate individual records and duplicate family records, within FH, for the current file (I know about the file/branch/pair merging functions). FTM used to prompt me if it adjudged that I might be entering a duplicate individual, and then give me the o...

File Stats
Any way to quickly view stats on the current file, showing: Total no. of individuals, total no. of families, total no. of surnames, number of notes, sources, etc., earliest birth date, number of generations, etc. (the type of thing that FTM shows, for example). Ideally all in one place, where it can...

2.2 Release - comments please
Just a quick note on the upgrade. Looks good and is also going in the right direction, for me. However, FH is not all there yet. I looked at FH prior to the 2.2 release and refused to buy it because it lacked a number of features that I felt I wanted in any genealogy program worth using. When the 2....

GEDCOM spec
Seems the above links are broken. A quick Google shows it is hard to find a copy of the 5.5 spec where the link is not broken (did everyone get asked to remove the spec?), although at the time of writing the following link seemed to work http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~pmcbride/gedcom/55gctoc.htm (HT...

Changing a record Id.
What's the gap between 0 and 1? ;) Seriously, IDs are that; just IDs. They could be 'xyz', 'aaa', 'gts', etc., if the standard allowed it. So long as they are unique, that really is all that matters. It's just convenient for the program to allocate them sequentially. If you ever get to several thous...

Scanning images/documents
PNG would probably be the best format for monochrome images, as an archive master, as it gives compression with no loss of detail. For colour masters, JPEG format probably wins out, due to space constraints, although the quality setting used when creating/saving the master is important. I usually us...

Wish List Items 2.2
Thanks for the advice. I had not considered PHP offerings, to date, as I run a Frontpage site, although running PHP alongside is not an issue. Your suggestion does look like it has potential, and I could live without the partial image links, particularly so since it is written in PHP and given that ...

Didn't see it in the Sales FAQ nor in a forum search, so will there be, or is there, an option to purchase and download the full version?
