New Developer Questions
Jane Thanks for the reply -just what I wanted. I do like the editor in FH but just don't like having FH hanging around in the background while I'm learning (maybe I'm weird) but I expected it to be the case that I needed FH running in order to work on FH projects and I'll certainly be using the samp...

New Developer Questions
Is there a way of running the 'new plugin' tool without running all of FH5 (or can you suggest another compatible editor).
Is FH5 compatible with all of Lua 5.1 and IUP v3 or only a subset?
TIA

Using AS options, if you record a census fact you have not recorded a residence fact - and vice versa. As census facts are important they should be recorded but if you know someone lived there then you should also be able to record a residence fact. In many cases there may be no residence fact recor...

Thanks Nick for the help I see your point about the residence and have found the option to change it that you mentioned. Wouldn't it be preferable to be able to put a 'check' against each individual to state if a residence fact should also be created. Everyone was there as a 'census fact' by definit...

Census-additional Information
Thanks Nick
I also read through the link - very useful.
Here's an example of where it would be useful to call up the census details I'd input in AS - change the field and update with the new data.

Another two AS questions: What does AS do with all the different 'occupations' that are entered into the censuses? Are they assigned to the 'occupations' facts in FH by date? Similarly with the 'residences', when you enter an address into the census address field in AS is this carried over into all...

Census-additional Information
Hi Nick et al I've just run an 'individual census report' in FH4 and I get an 'additional information' paragraph at the end of each individual which lists an address. I assume this is the address field I have entered in AS. My question is where is this info stored in FH? I noticed that my entiries w...

Illegitimate birth recording
Thanks Jane
A bit unsubtle to have a big empty box though, for families that don't like to advertise this - it kind of exaggerates the fact - more subtle if the child just descended from a single parent.

Illegitimate birth recording
Hi all
I've had the same problem.
The unknown Parent of an illegitimate child entered as above still shows on the diagram as a blank box - how do I hide the box and yet still show the child's box?
TIA

Can I change record IDs?
Thanks Jane - that did the trick - I only needed to alter a few as there was one large family and I wanted them grouped by ID

Can I change record IDs?
When I first started my tree I didn't realise that it may one day be more useful to have consecutive IDs for family members and so I find IDs out of sequence Is there a way I can change the IDs assigned by the program and have this reflected wherever the IDs are used.
TIA

Hello Gerry
It seems our replies crosssed over - you've answered my second post too - that's efficient[smile]
I will be building up a list of To Dos for the LMA and Westminster Archives (day trips I expect)
Thank you both

Hello Tatewise Thanks for the reply Yes I have already done as you suggest, and I use Ancestral Sources, and all the data items matche the person I'm looking for so I guess I'll include them. Do you know if it's possible to find any information from the hospital regarding patient in 1881 (long shot?...

I have only recently started my tree/genealogy but I have come across two 'missing' persons and I wondered what more experienced people would do with this data (regarding entry into FH) and how to proceed (regarding finding out more): 1: A Sarah Shephard was missing from her home on census night 188...

Hello tatewise
Yes I have noticed the interactive diagrams, I use them a lot, and I think it is a major feature of FH and much better than anything the competitiion has to offer.
Thanks for pointing it out though

Hello Nick Yes, you'e right I did make a mistake in forgetting it was a user group - I am so used to forums where the people behind the scenes are the developers or proprietors of the software. So I hope the other members of the User Group will excuse what might appear to be a rant in this forum. Fr...

Thank you both for your replies - tatewise I'll be learning about cutomising queries - thanks for the links. Jane has given me more idea about what I wanted to know. I am evaluating FH for purchase and I prefer it to the 5 or so others I've evaluated. The interactive diagrams are a boon. Although I ...

2011 UK census No Middle Name
I agree with the above comments - how many times have I been able to find someone in the registers because the place of birth was recorded on the census and how often confused because middle names were not. All genealogists should get together and create one of those online petitions for the governm...

Can anyone tell me what Database and Query language is used in FH?
Also, if it is a proprietary language is there a good tutorial anywhere?
TIA
