Thanks for the reply.
Think the best course then is to upgrade to version 7. My issue now is how to find my licence key for my version 5 copy to get my 20% discount.

I am currently running version 5 of family historian and was thinking of upgrading to a later edition. I note that the latest paid for edition is version 7. Is version 8 due soon?
Thanks

Re: New PC - No Cd Drive
Sadly I cant get access to the original Family Historian program directory but that isn't proving to be a major problem. The only thing I'm now having difficulty with is trying to locate the original icons (dots, Triangles, and arrows etc) so that I can use them with flags. I use a number of my own ...

Re: New PC - No Cd Drive
Many thanks Mike and Lorna. I followed the advice above and managed to copy the cd on to a memory stick. I then managed to install version 5 on my new laptop. I can access my projects and all looks ok apart from the issue with the flags and ive lost a custom query I had created which generates my li...

Re: New PC - No Cd Drive
hi Lorna,
That seems like a way forward. My daughter still has a CD drive and I have a spare usb stick so will give that a go.
Many thanks.

Re: New PC - No Cd Drive

The one small snag is that I use a lot of Flags ...

Re: New PC - No Cd Drive
I tried downloading the 30 day trial and then entering the 36 character registration key that came with my original purchase. unfortunately that didn't work
Any suggestions or is it a case of purchasing and downloading the latest version?

Hi Mike, Thanks for the speedy reply. I don't have any Media to worry about I.e no photos or scans of certificates or census records. I purchased a complete version 5 (not an upgrade) so have the CD and of course the registration Key. I'm hoping I can download the 30 day trial version from here http...

Annulled Marriages
I've been doing a lot of work on the line of succession to the British throne and the descendants of the Electress Sophia. I've come across a number of marriages that have been Annuled rather than ending in divorce. There doesn't seem to be an option in the status box to record this. Is there a reas...

Re: Common Ancestors
Thanks for the quick reply Mike, I thought it might be easier than that but never mind. Would have been interesting. Also noticed that there seems to be a limit on the maximum Ahnentafel Number. Eg Robert II of Normandy( William the conqueror's father) has a number 1,074,044,980. and Margaret of Wes...

Common Ancestors
You may recall that I have been using Family Historian to record genealogical data on the Royal Family as well as my own. ( haven't found a common ancestor yet. I can see that Prince George is a descendant multiple times over to Charlemagne but I wondered how many routes there are. I can see this Pi...

Re: Apple I-pad Mini
In short you can't run family historian on an I pad or I pad mini. However what you can do is view the gedcom file that family historian creates in another app. Personally I first imported the gedcom file into an app called Gedview but that was fiddle. I gave now imported into Ancestry using the Anc...

How do you organise your Paper Records?
When I first started accumulating certificates and Census records for our family Ancestors it became failrly obvious that I was going to need some sort of system for filing it all. I quickly cottoned on to the idea of using Ahnentafel numbers and bought a binder and a set of dividers numbered 1-31, ...

Deaths in childbirth ( A thank you)
Last year I was strugling to construct a query that would show up how many of the Electress Sophia's (basically George the first's mother) female descendants had died in childbirth. Original thread in locked forum here http://www.fhug.org.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=45&t=6727 Now having finaly upgr...

Re: Upgrading to version 5
New software now installed and have managed to import both into family historian and create projects for them. Both trees look refreshingly familiar so i'm happy so far. However I have hit my first very minor snag. I tend to keep all my files saved on to a Memory stick rather than my C drive ( I als...

Upgrading to version 5
Finally after much hesitation I have decided to upgrade from version 3, which I have loved using, to version 5. I'm looking forward to exploring some of the new features it will offer. However before I run headlong into installing the new software are there any activities I ought to undertake. I hav...

HowardRP i note tfrom a previous post in this thread that you are working on a Royal Family project. I would be interested to hear how you are doing. I started some years ago tryng to record ALL the descendents of the Electress Sophia. I now have a family tree containing around 20,000 people , aroun...
