25% cash back from Ancestry.co.uk

Sorry you're having problems - I used it this morning and have just had confirmation from Quidco that I will be getting about £39:00 back? I think I used IE but it may have been Chrome - but it really shouldn't matter? [confused]

25% cash back from Ancestry.co.uk

Have just renewed my Ancestry subscription via 'Quidco' (http://www.quidco.co.uk) and they currently have the above offer running. So if anyone else needs to renew - might be worth checking it out? [smile]

Sharing FH across network

Hi John - apologies for the jargon! - NAS is 'network access storage' and is essentially an always on hard drive that can share it's folders & files with other computers on the network. In use it is similar to putting files into the shared area in 'Windows'. An important difference for me is that I ...

Sharing FH across network

Hi John, I have happily been using FH across my home wireless network now for about a year.I have the whole project on a NAS drive and can access it happily with either the laptop or desktop machine. Speed is slightly affected, more so when using wireless access, but for all practical purpses it's f...

toolbar icon question

Hi Bill, I'm pretty sure this is a reflection of the fact that ancestral sources is going to grow in the future. If you look to the right of this icon there others, greyed out, referring to baptisms, marriages deaths etc. The only active one currently is censuses hence the pen & paper is 'live'. I g...

I have had to delete 3 items and consequently the numerics now have a gap.  Is it possible to make an entry using the missing numbers? As the previous post - it is possible but.... if you have or intend to produce a website - particularly if you plan to add your own pages with links to FH generated...

Hi Geoff, I've had my own site up now for a year or two and it is mostly generated by FH. Having looked at the head section of some of my pages I find each one does refer to the title using the full name (and spouse where appropriate)see code below: Family of William WILSON and Isabella METCALFS So ...

Hi again Bill! Just realised you must have got as far as my last suggestion yourself - should have read your post more closely! However you might try INDI.NAME[1].SPFX as a data reference this seems to give me an extra field on the main tab if this is what you want? See below Cheers Chris http://www...

showing name prefix, suffix, and nickname

Hi Bill, I think what you need to do is remove the tick from the 'show commonly used items only' box at the bottom of the 'customize property box' dialogue. This makes available a '' option which if you select and move accross to the right hand side should enable you to add extra custmisable fields ...

Hi Graham, I agree AS is a great help in getting data into Family Historian in a consistent and simple way and I have been able to add or delete columns to existing templates and indeed create brand new ones as required. So if I have understood you correctly you need to go to the main 'Census' menu ...

Individuals - source record - mm record?

What do you generally do in these circumstance: have multiple sources with different titles each linked to the same source image; have multiple sources each linked to differently named copies of the same image; Hi David - Like you I identify census sources and images using the main individual's nam...

IE8 Navigation

I have noticed recently that the IE8 'back', 'forward' and 'recent pages' navigation arrows have stopped working properly on this site? The only way I seem to be able to navigate recently viewed pages is to use the site 'breadcrumbs' menu at the top of the page? Maybe I have tweaked a setting somewh...

Diagrams

Hi dhj, There are several ways you can move diagrams around either to change the diagram or to make an exisiting digram fit better on a page. To shuffle page borders around (if your diagram spreads over more than one sheet of paper that your printer uses) you need first to click 'show page boudaries...

Workinng with External Files Very Slow

Hi Des, Thanks for the comment - most of the files are significatly larger than this - around 0.5 mb at 150 dpi. This is the size they come in at from ancestry or findmypast. Mostly they are census images and I am reluctant to reduce the quality as I may want to make prints of some in the future and...

Workinng with External Files Very Slow

Thanks Nick - i think I see what you mean [smile] I guess I should be grateful it doesn't need to keep checking the multimedia files are there untill I ask it to look at them all!! It would be a bit friendlier perhaps if, after I had made any changes, it only looked at the changed files and didn't g...

First let me add my huge thanks to Nick for all his work on GC & now AS - saved me hours and kept me aaccurate [smile] Now to my question - I have recently started working with my gedcom file on a networked hard drive. How to rename a large number of files?

Hi Christine I don't think there is any way to achieve this within Family Historian. However there are several (free) file renaming utilities available for a quick search on Google. Have a look here   http://www.snapfiles.com/Freeware/system/fwfilerename.html . Can't make any recommendations - maybe...

Website wizard hyperlinks

Hi Steve, In my experience the URLs generated are consistent - they are based on the record number for either individual or family records. So providing you don't change the record numbers all should stay consistent. The only slight complication is that should you discover a new spouse for an indivi...

Hi Vimira However, I have just pasted the contents into a Word doc, which seems not too bad, though there are some formatting limitations again, because it retains the cell/box feature. Focus Window

You could always simply print the screen (most keyboards have a 'print screen' option) this will print a copy of the full screen to your clipboard. The image can then simply be pasted in to a 'Word' or 'PowerPoint' document and the bits you don't want 'cut' out? Of course this will just be a picture...

Family Tree CD

Hi Ann, I'm pretty sure this issue was sorted in a recent 'fix' (V 4.0.1) issued by Calico Pie. It's available here: http://www.family-historian.co.uk/downloads/latest.htm . As it says this will only work if you already have version 4 up and running. However assuming that to be the case then I found...
