Windows Defender

I am running FH6 on Windows 8.1. Several times I have noticed that Windows Defender wants to send some files to Microsoft analysts to determine whether these files are malicious. Upon further analysis, the only file ever selected is Fh.exe. I have never sent this file to Microsoft but wondered if an...

Re: Exporting to Roots Magic

Source No 761 was a census record. All links were correct but, from memory. the actual census displayed as a grey box in the multimedia window.

The 'show project statistics' plugin has certainly revealed some interesting facts and a few possible mistakes in my data eg marriage at age 8!.

Re: Exporting to Roots Magic

Downloaded and ran the 'delete redundant notes link' plugin. Found a few errors. Finally deleted all the uncategorised data (leftovers from a previous gedcom import) but still had same error message on the gedcom export. Eventually found that Source No 760 was ok but Source No 761 contained valid li...

Exporting to Roots Magic

I am trying to export a gedcom file to Roots Magic using the Export Gedcom File plugin. I have cleared up any missing file links but have found numerous UDF's which I do not know how to correct!. However, from the basic options I have selected RMT, ANSI and PART and then export GEDCOM. All progresse...

Re: Astromenda browser

Very good advice Mike, although I suspect within the next few months my eldest grandson will know far more about computing than I do and I might even find myself locked out of my own machine!.

Re: Astromenda browser

Thanks for the suggestion Craig. I've always been a bit wary about this type of software in case it gets rid of one malware program and introduces some other. I suppose it all depends on the recommendation. After further investigation it appears that my grandkids use IE when visiting their game site...

Re: Astromenda browser

Internet Explorer did default to Astromenda. I changed the home page in IE to google.co.uk which it seemed to accept. I then tried to load a web page via FH and it gave me the google home page and not astromenda. This seems too good to be true so I will watch this carefully over the next few days. I...

Re: Astromenda browser

The browser was reached by internet- open web search window and the default page is astromenda. The search the internet button goes direct to ancestryUk but does not use my normal chrome browser with my bookmarks etc. Last weekend I did a system restore to remove another malware program called media...

Re: FH V6 My Heritage Hints

A few years ago I gave a printed copy of my tree to my cousin. I now find, via the My Heritage hints, that he has published this information on the my Heritage website. This would have been ok but full details of all living people are included including my own. Cue one very angry phone call.

Gedstar Pro

I use this program to convert my gedcom file for use on my android tablet. Since v6 I get a fatal error on trying to create a new database. The message in GedStar Pro reads Line #1 found in GEDCOM file without a level number. File TCGedParse.cpp, line 194

Astromenda browser

I have just updated from v5 to v6 and find that if I open a web page on the internet via FH I am taken to astromenda's home page and search engine. Is this part of the update?. I do not need or wish to have this program on my computer. Usually, when I open chrome I get the google browser; it is only...

FH settings on a laptop

I have read the 'how to' article and the whole process seems very complicated, especially for computer novices.  Asking them to alter settings within the system registry seems fraught with danger. The project folder in FH4 has made the transfer of data between computer and laptop very easy, especial...

FH settings on a laptop

I usualy use my laptop when visiting family members to show them latest developments etc. However, I seem to have a problem with keeping both computers in sync.  I copy the data from the project files ok but seem to have a problem with program settings eg icons on diagrams etc. What is the best way ...

I have already installed the v4.01 upgrade but the v4.02 upgrade will not install over it! Do we have to reinstall v4 first?

Media links on census events

Thank you all for your comments. I had already started the process of re-entering census events using the excellent GEDCOM census program but the numbers involved (several hundred)and the introduction of FH4 made me wonder if I was wasting my time! I will now continue to add media to the census sour...

Media links on census events

I have used Family Origins/Rootsmagic for many years and have now moved to FH mainly because of the abilty to select faces on photos etc. Rootsmagic allowed media to be attached to all events and I used this for certificates and census events but FH3.1 did not recognise the links. I tried GEDCOM Cen...
