Media file

Thank you both so much, I have just completed this exercise using your very clear directions - something I had no idea it was possible to do. Taken me about 30 mins, (using Nick's method) and moved nearly 100 documents, and they have all re-appeared attached to the right people and in the right place...

Media file

I am currently work on my first FH project, transferring from Generations, and doing a major source re-visit as I go. Three generations in, I have realised that the Media file would be better organised, if I could make separate folders within it for Census, Certificates and Photos. However, if I do ...

Dropbox and Family Historian

Thanks Jane, a bit clearer! I thought FH was always a gedcom, so why 2 versions? If the multi-coloured icon is the Project file, presumably this is the one I should access under normal conditions at home, when entering new data etc? Is green the one to use for sharing or sending to another researche...

Dropbox and Family Historian

I have been using Dropbox to store my Family Historian files for a month or so, and access either via my PC or Netbook. I have separate FH files for each of my main surnames. Today I have realised that sometimes I access these via the Family Historian logo on my desktop, and sometimes via the Dropbo...

Log Files

Thank you to Gerry and Nick. Have followed your instructions and both 61 and 71 census now attached to correct family, and have done the default thing, so hopefully all should be well the next time. If you want to add an image in AS, am I right in thinking it has to be done at the same time as you e...

Log Files

Nick - I have loaded Ancestral Sources and tried a couple of census entries. 1861 seemed to go ok, and is visible on FH, but then I did 1871 - all the detail is in the Log File, but I cannot see it in FH. When I tried to re-do it, Ancestral said the individual already has an entry for this date, do ...

Retrieval of Source Text

Thank you for that, Nick - so new I didn't realise that should have gone straight to Ancestral. It's been a long day, so will download that tomorrow when am feeling fresh. Do I clear/delete the Gedcom Census entries (only 2) and if so, how do I do this, before starting again? Am not going to be beat...

Retrieval of Source Text

If Ancestral Sources is a better alternative than slitting my throat which is what I feel like doing now, I will give it a try!  This afternoon I have entered another census record (1851)and have been able to see the extra (non-family) residents in the source record, no problem, so maybe I did not e...

Retrieval of Source Text

Peter - thanks for the welcome.  Ok - have tried clicking on the yellow triangle - but that only gives me the family from my Family Historian file, not the 2 servants and the lodgers which I also entered into the original Source Text.  These are the people I am curious to know whether I can retrieve...

Retrieval of Source Text

Very new both to FHistorian and Gedcom Census, but have managed to load both and done my first couple of census entries, I think ok.  However, am curious to know if it is possible to retrieve the Source Text entry which includes everyone in the relevant household, not just those family members logge...
