Hi Mike the select range of buttons has now reappeared but the screen had to be maximsed by pulling out the corners to their extreme positions as you suggested but this it did not survive being switched off. Will give it a run but meantime my thanks.

Re: Place List
Hi Mike Sorry to take so long to reply. I have attached a shot of the bottom of my Places screen. As you can see there is nothing which would let me Select and so enter a Place name that I have found by entering three characters and the [...] button. Without this facility I cannot use the Places Lis...

Re: Place List
Your suggestions seem to fix the problems of width of the screen but not the height i.e. the Select button is still not showing. As I use this [...] very regularly in entering data in several parts of FH it is rather important that it is all in place all of the time. How do I get the Select button p...

List of Places
How do I have the List of Places open in Maximised format when I use the [...] button in the Property Box. I would like to bring up the identified Place in view on the screen with the ability to Select the record and to have access to the side panel which lets me edit, merge etc the entries. Many th...

Place List
Two problems with the Place List 1.The screen opens up in semi minimised form and this hides the Select etc buttons at the foot of the screen. 2.When you use the [...] in the property boxes it opens the list for the selected place about four lines below the bottom of the screen. How can I correct th...

Re: FH6 Property Box Facts Tab
Re: FH6 Property Box Facts Tab. I must confess to being rather disappointed at the negative approach to my posting. It appears from a quick look at a few of the entries shows that the following Tags appear as as Facts without having a date Occup; Born; Marriage; Died; Emigrate; Residence; Descriptio...

FH6 Property Box Facts Tab
The facts tab is a really useful summary of an individual's (and family) lifetime BUT I have just discovered that there is an error/feature which has been there since at least version 3 but which has not caused a problem until version 6. The problem is that the facts tab is only fed with information...

Syncing Files
How easy or not is it to sync copies of FH between computers on a network? I am using a laptop away from home and would like to be able to have it update the 'master files' when I get back.

A3 Printers
Is there a problem with getting FH to print out in A3 format? I am able to get good results with Family Tree Maker but FH simply disregards the paper size. All comments will be gratefully received.

I am trying to print out as many names as possible on an A3 printer. Could anyone suggest the font which will give a the smallest easily read font? Are there any tips you can give me to let me include b.m.d dates and occupation and place on the basis of the maximum number of names per page. Many tha...

Jane I have tried ever so hard to understand how to use this utility but I am lost completely. I have Ifran View installed but have no idea of what you mean by setting the location. For an old duffer who works every day with FH could you take me through the steps one by one for the values I should b...

RJTFHC is a little utility which Jane has made available on the FHUG to allow us to merge the Media files in with the GED Com files when we transfer projects from one computer or Program to another. As it stands Family Historian will only move the text and leave the media, making it a monumental job...

In the past I have used rpriv very successfully to remove the BMD dates from my reports but now that I have Photos so much a part of my system I find that to use rpriv also removes the photos. I have tried to use the RJTFHC add on but I's afraid that the instructions are rather to sparse for me to b...

Jane, as usual you are right. Sadly the little numbers showing the links existence are extremely small so I had not spotted them.
Many thanks

Too many photos in reports
I am busy extracting and pdfing reports in V4 on Windows XP. I have inserted many photographs of buildings in my project but when I come to extract them I often (not always) and quite unpredictably get more then one copy of the photo on the screen and then on the printed page, pdf or not. I put a ca...

So far saving to pdf and then printing seems to have done the trick. This does seem to a bit clumsy though.

I am trying to print out a 24 page A4 Narative report on Windows Xp and FH4 to a Laser Printer. There are quite a few small photographs. Linking media to Places
Is there a way to link a photo to the name of a place no matter what the place name is being used to e.g. Birth, Occupation etc? If there was an option to set up such a link the first time a place name was entered it would make media entry a breeze - enter a place name and have the option to have th...

Sorry for the delay in getting back and thanks to all for the suggestions. I am finding that some of my older photographs - particularly those in grey tones are nothing like as sharp in FH 4 as they are in my standard viewer. They are also covered in what I can only describe as patterns. Am I doing something wrong or is this a normal result?
