Possibility of corrupt file on the 3.1.2 u/g disk?

I just purchased FH3 in a boxed set.  There were 2 discs - the main v3.0 and an upgrade to v3.1.2. I installed them both - obviously the main disc first - but when I tried restarting my PC, (WinXP SP2), it wouldn't start properly and froze. I removed FH in its entirety and everything worked fine aga...

'Query report - options' v. 'Report-only options'

When you have a standard report, one can click on 'options' + see a dialogue box which has a 'page layout' tab for setting margins etc. When dealing with query reports, you get the same 'options' box but MINUS the 'page layout' tab. I must admit, this omission annoys me as it means that I can't layo...

Named lists

[quote]The three re-appearing lists are the ones listed in the auto-create on the tools, preferences dialog, if you remove them from there Fh will not re-create them [quote] I thought I had already had deleted them. Sure enough, when I checked, the autocomplete boxes ARE empty. I realised that I had...

Named lists

On the 'Greyed out' front you had realised notes are made against each member of the list on globally.

Try showing the List Report in the More Reports menu and check if any of the people/families have notes against them.
I HADN'T realised - all sorted now thanks!

Named lists

1] Yesterday, I put together a named list and made some notes in the bottom portion; then I saved it. Now, when I just came to my list again, the notes are all greyed out even though I've selected the appropriate list in the top pane. Anyone know what I've failed to do? 2] Why have the columns 'WIP'...

Page formatting for Query Reports

Does anyone know a way of 'formatting', (that's what I know it as anyway!), a page for a query report - ie centering it, adjusting the margins, indents etc., like you can with a normal report? I know you can alter the fonts using 'Query Options' but how do you adjust everything else? Is this one for...

Can I change a standard event into a custom one?

I've gone and recorded my father's WW2 service as a standard 'occupation' event rather than a custom event.

Is it possible to change one type of event from one to the other, [ie, change the word 'occupation' into 'event'], without having to retype everything?

Configuring query reports

Hi Jane,

Configure a query report - set the margins, set + size the font and so on.

I know how to do it with an ordinary report but can't work out how to do it with a query.

Configuring query reports

I must be having a bad day because I can't work out how to configure a custom query report like a normal report. How's it done?

TIA

1891/1901 Scottish census + language

Thanks Norman - yeah, I'd figured that's what that column was, but as most of my family were from Eastern Europe + there were a few of them, it's a shame the census form didn't have another column for other languages as they all spoke Yiddish from what I can gather!

1891/1901 Scottish census + language

In a recent post on the Wish List forum, 'tafwys' said that the 1891/1901 Scottish censuses, (I don't know about Wales sorry), gave 'language spoken'.  I've just rechecked + can't find it.

Did I miss something?

Where to put info. on a specific place?

Sorry Jane, I'm being really slow here - it must be the unseasonal heat in London! 1) Not sure what you mean by a 'linked note record'? 2) This particular ancestor gave his age and place of birth on a census form - consequently, that census appears as a source whenever you click on his place of birt...

Where to put info. on a specific place?

One of my ancestors came from an obscure little village overseas. I've found out quite a lot about this place on the Net. Any ideas on what would be the best way of storing this info. within fH? I've looked at the online User manual but this doesn't seem to help.

What's the best way of recording a period of yrs?

My late father, like millions of others, served in WW2 for a few years. I'd like to put this in fH somewhere. What's the best way that people have found to enter something like this - dealing with it as an event or attribute, by making a note, or maybe dealing with it some other way? TIA Mike ID:393

'Partners' + NOT 'spouses'

I'd forgotten I'd already done that, (ie setting 'status' box), because it was a while ago! However, when I set up a diagram, it shows ''x' [date]  m.'y' ', ie. the partners as being married.

Have I omitted to do something as regards the diagram?

'Partners' + NOT 'spouses'

When you're showing a particular relationship on a diagram, it seems unfortunate that if there are children, in this day and age, it has to be described as a 'marriage' when often the parents are partners only.

Is there a way of showing this or is this one for the wish list?

Finding people in Manchester

I have a late grandmother whose family and her were DEFINITELY living at a given address in Cheetham (Hill), Manchester at the time of the 1901 census. Needless to say, none of them were registered. (Surprse, surprise!). However, I do remember vaguely, reading something somewhere about how it was po...
