Re: How to change upper case to lower case

I guess I misunderstood the question. I thought using the FH Find and Replace command would be quicker than copying the text in FH, starting a word processor, pasting it into the word processor, changing the text to mixed case, copying the changed text in the word processor, and pasting it back into...

Re: COM exception error

Mike,

Yes... once we get past this Covid situation, I'll probably take it to a shop. Luckily it seems to work fine on WiFi. Unfortunately the connection speed I get with WiFi is only about half of what I get with Ethernet, but still pretty fast.

Re: COM exception error

Mike, Yes it is very odd especially since it worked just fine for years and now I'm getting these errors in FH plugins and I am also having problem in Malwarebytes as well. All problems go away when I switch from Ethernet to WiFi. I have tried two different cables and get the errors with both. I hav...

Re: COM exception error

Mike, As it turns out, I was wondering if it could be my connection somehow. I was connected to my router via an Ethernet cable. I disconnected this and then connected by WiFi instead. All errors while running the plugins went away. I have now been running all day on WiFi and have tried the plugins ...

Re: COM exception error

Mike, I just got this error running Map Life Facts. image2.jpg When I click on OK, Map Life Facts start up just fine, but it doesn't plot the initial place. I get this weird status. image3.jpg Then if I select a different place it plots fine and then going back and selecting the initial place plots ...

Re: COM exception error

Hadn't noticed the difference before. I guess I didn't look close enough. Mine is different than David's and Mark's. image1.jpg What is weird is that sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. Not sure if the problem is on my computer or on the server. I tried running the plugin while surfing the ...

Re: COM exception error

Thanks Mike. I'm not sure what is going on. It didn't work for about 20 different tries and then one time it worked and then it didn't work again. Kind of intermittent. Maybe their server is having issues or something.

Re: COM exception error

Sorry to butt in, but I am getting the same error when I try to run the Check Installed Plugins Against the Store plugin. Worked fine last time I ran it a week or two ago. Backup and Restore Family Historian Plugins works fine.

Re: activating FH6.2 from an earlier time

All I do is to shut it down as you do and then the next day I click on the icon to start it up again.

5 minutes to start it up seems like an especially long time. How big is your database? Mine is just over 20,000 individuals and it only takes about 20 seconds for FH to load.

Trevor,

What app or accessory is this supposed to start up? Windows key + G doesn't do anything on my PC and I am on Windows 10 1909.

Re: Plugin Warning - Unicode Ahead!

Thanks for the chart. Yes, all the characters I need are in that chart, so that is why I haven't run into any problems. If I find I have to use a new character in the future, I'll check to see that it is also in the chart.

Thanks,

Re: Plugin Warning - Unicode Ahead!

Mike,

Sounds complex. I guess all the characters I use for Norwegian and German names must be in code page 1252 so I don't ever run into any problems. I'll watch out in the future for any problems I may encounter.

Thanks,
Bill

Mike, This is one of those plugins that I rarely if ever use. However, I did run a test and renamed Åkra, Kari Larsdatter - birth record.jpg to Åkra, Kari Larsdatter - birth recordxx.jpg. Re: Plugin Warning - Unicode Ahead!

Mike, Thanks for the information. Good to know. I'll keep my eye out for any problems. I've never had any names, places, or addresses where characters were changed to ?. While I do have folders and files with Unicode characters, I don't have any in my project folder path. I can see where this would ...

Re: Plugin Warning - Unicode Ahead!

Mike, i have for many years used accented characters in German and Norwegian Individual names, Place names, addresses etc. I also use them in file names and folder names. Re: Are English parish record images online?

Mike,

Thanks for the reply. Yes, I had already looked there. They are available online, but only at an LDS Family History Center. At the moment these are all closed due to the virus. There is one not to far from me, so maybe I'll head over there after things open up again.

Thanks,

Re: Are English parish record images online?

Ann,

The image Brian posted was for 1695. The other records for the family would range from about 1685 to 1730 or so.

Since I'm not positive I am related to this family (see the thread need help finding Nicholas Henshaw (15790)), I think I'll hold off subscribing for now.

Thanks!

Re: Are English parish record images online?

Ann, Thanks for the reply. I have searched both ways on FindMyPast and found some records for the family. I just don't have a subscription to FindMyPast. Re: Are English parish record images online?

Lorna,

Thanks so much. I should have been looking for "y" with an "e" over it instead of "y" with an "o" over it. After looking at the other writing in the image Brian posted, I can see that it is an "e".

Thanks!

Re: Are English parish record images online?

I see that it is in the Unicode symbols and is indeed a "Latin small y with a ring above it". I couldn't find anywhere what it means or how it is used in genealogy. Hopefully someone will know.

Thanks,

Re: Are English parish record images online?

Brian,

Thanks for the image. I was hoping there might be some additional info that wasn't included in the index. Oh well, it was worth a try.

Do you know what the symbol after his name is that looks like a "y" with an "o" over it?

Thanks,
Bill
