Re: Making sensible selections

My ggg grandfather had 7 children after the age of 40. The last one was born when he was 58. I have many men who had children born after they were 40 and quite a few when they were over 50, even some who were over 60. Not unusual at all.

I don't use any of these so would be fine with their removal.

Re: help with GEDExplorer question

Mike,

I did mention that it would be nice to see the line in error and have a line number rather than byte location. I forgot to mention the one error at a time issue.

Re: help with GEDExplorer question

I finally heard back from Christer Sundin at GEDExplorer. He indicated that

GEDexplorer doesn't support the use of "/" in dates so that is something I need to improve.

Re: help with GEDExplorer question

I downloaded and installed PSPad. I did the search using 5,886,306 which is half the number in the warning. There was a date at that approximate position... 12 Feb 1733/34. This seems to me to be valid, so I looked in my gedcom to see if I had other "double dates". I do. None of them were flagged in...

Re: help with GEDExplorer question

Use the Search > Goto Line... command where the Abs.position: specifies a character (code point) position. But remember that in a UTF-16 LE Unicode encoded GEDCOM file that is half the byte position count. This is all Greek to me. Does this mean I have to divide the number in the warning in half an...

Re: help with GEDExplorer question

Mike,

Good idea, but I don't have any date phrases in my file. Oh well... isn't causing any major problems or anything. Just an irritant to see that warning every time I start it up.

Thanks,

help with GEDExplorer question

When I open my gedcom file in GEDExplorer I get a warning about a non-standard date as shown. image1.jpg Does anyone have any ideas on how I can determine where this error is? At first I thought maybe it was a line number, but I don't have that many lines in my gedcom. I ran a validate in FH and it ...

Re: How to change upper case to lower case

I guess I misunderstood the question. I thought using the FH Find and Replace command would be quicker than copying the text in FH, starting a word processor, pasting it into the word processor, changing the text to mixed case, copying the changed text in the word processor, and pasting it back into...

Re: COM exception error

Mike,

Yes... once we get past this Covid situation, I'll probably take it to a shop. Luckily it seems to work fine on WiFi. Unfortunately the connection speed I get with WiFi is only about half of what I get with Ethernet, but still pretty fast.

Re: COM exception error

Mike, Yes it is very odd especially since it worked just fine for years and now I'm getting these errors in FH plugins and I am also having problem in Malwarebytes as well. All problems go away when I switch from Ethernet to WiFi. I have tried two different cables and get the errors with both. I hav...

Re: COM exception error

Mike, As it turns out, I was wondering if it could be my connection somehow. I was connected to my router via an Ethernet cable. I disconnected this and then connected by WiFi instead. All errors while running the plugins went away. I have now been running all day on WiFi and have tried the plugins ...

Re: COM exception error

Mike, I just got this error running Map Life Facts. image2.jpg When I click on OK, Map Life Facts start up just fine, but it doesn't plot the initial place. Hadn't noticed the difference before. I guess I didn't look close enough. Mine is different than David's and Mark's. image1.jpg What is weird is that sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. Re: COM exception error

Thanks Mike. I'm not sure what is going on. It didn't work for about 20 different tries and then one time it worked and then it didn't work again. Kind of intermittent. Maybe their server is having issues or something.

Sorry to butt in, but I am getting the same error when I try to run the Check Installed Plugins Against the Store plugin. Worked fine last time I ran it a week or two ago. Backup and Restore Family Historian Plugins works fine.

Re: activating FH6.2 from an earlier time

All I do is to shut it down as you do and then the next day I click on the icon to start it up again.

5 minutes to start it up seems like an especially long time. How big is your database? Mine is just over 20,000 individuals and it only takes about 20 seconds for FH to load.

What app or accessory is this supposed to start up? Windows key + G doesn't do anything on my PC and I am on Windows 10 1909.

Re: Plugin Warning - Unicode Ahead!

Thanks for the chart. Yes, all the characters I need are in that chart, so that is why I haven't run into any problems. If I find I have to use a new character in the future, I'll check to see that it is also in the chart.

Thanks,

Re: Plugin Warning - Unicode Ahead!

Mike,

Sounds complex. I guess all the characters I use for Norwegian and German names must be in code page 1252 so I don't ever run into any problems. I'll watch out in the future for any problems I may encounter.

Thanks,
