Re: FHUG on the move

I am back to my PC so I thought I'd test again. Everything looks fine in Firefox and IE. No buttons in Chrome although for me they also show up if I run my cursor back and forth over where they are (although they disappear again after I moved my cursor away). As for the Knowledge Base, I am able to ...

Re: FHUG on the move

I'd rather have the site up and running than have all the customization. Thanks for taking care of this and for all you do to keep FHUG up and running!

Thanks!

I'm still having very slow response numerous times a day and sometimes I can't get to the site at all. Is there any hope for a fix for the problem?

Re: FHUG website slow

Jane,

Don't know if you still need this, but just now it is taking 30-40 seconds to load a page. I tried the knowledge base and it loaded right away.

Edit: Of course as soon as I posted this it started working just fine. It had been very slow for about 5 minutes.

Re: Drop box

Gary,

Take a look at this article in the Knowledge Base if you haven't already: Knowledge Base > Utility ~ Dropbox

I don't use Dropbox, but it looks like you only need to have your project folder in Dropbox, not the program itself.

Re: Æ, Ø and Å

Hello You can use a special facility to enter accented characters by turning on Tools > Preferences > General > To Enter Accents when Typing . You can also enter them by using ALT-xxxx where xxxx is the appropriate code for the letter. I use both capabilities and it works fine. I export my gedcom an...

Re: Cannot install Plugin problem

I had forgotten about that other post. I thought this sounded familiar. As I mentioned in the other post I do not have a Help > Product Registration item and I have registered in the past. Not sure why people have differences in their Help > About.

Sorry to butt in on this thread, but I bought my FH as a download from Calico Pie and I don't have a "registered to" line in the Help > About either.

Drag and Drop text question

I can drag and drop text into the Note field in the source pane. However, if I double click on the Note field to open it in its own window, then I can't drag and drop text into the window. Is that expected behavior? If so, would it be technically possible to do so? Could I open a wish list request f...

I also would not like the behavior being described for the same reasons as listed by others. I like the way it currently behaves.

Re: Census Dates

Interestingly I have another family that is also enumerated 3 times in 1850. Once in Missouri, next in California, and then back in Missouri. He went to strike it rich in the gold mines in California and didn't so he moved back to a different address in Missouri. It often took 4 - 6 months after the...

Re: Census Dates

Enumeration dates are much more spread out in the US as Mike mentioned due to the vast distances and the fact that especially in the mid-1800's the west was sparsely populated. I have a family that was enumerated three times in the 1850 census. Once in Clark County, Missouri where they were living a...

Mike,

Not sure this is what you are experiencing, but I've seen something that looks kind of like that when I've been signed out of the forums. If that is the case, signing back in worked for me.

Re: The Theory of Eight

I was able to remember all eight surnames for mine. They are: Henshaw, Shoemaker, Driftmier, Niewedde, Mork, Hauge, Gaard, and Bauge (went by Boyd). I have photos of all eight. On my wife's side I could only remember 3. Hers are: Nayematsu, Inouye, Mikami, Hidaka, Matsumoto, Shinnaka, Taniguchi, and...

Re: Synch FH on two Laptops

I use a free tool called SyncBack. The free version does everything I need. It too allows including or excluding subfolders and you can specify file name masks to exclude certain files from the sync. I've been using this for about 5 or 6 years and have never had any problems.

Re: Create Individual Shortcut very slow

I hadn't used it before so I didn't realize that there is a whitelist capability. I thought maybe because the shortcut is using a .cmd file to launch FH, that the shortcut would have to be added. So, I added "Launch Family Historian.cmd" into the whitelist. That didn't help. Then I added fh.exe to t...

Re: Create Individual Shortcut very slow

I always use the focus window so that is what I had it set for. I changed it to use the records window and that didn't make any difference. I have tried selecting the root person and a variety of other individuals in my tree and that didn't make any difference either. [edit] I went into task manager...

Re: Create Individual Shortcut very slow

Thanks for the replies. I tried turning off my anti-virus and anti-malware programs and the problem persists. A couple times it has taken so long I think I haven't clicked on the shortcut and click it again and then two instances of FH start up eventually. Oh well... I guess I'll just revert to star...

Re: Create Individual Shortcut very slow

Yes, that flashes by right away. Then the FH logo screen flashes a second later. Then it takes a long time to actually load the file and display it in FH.
