Re: FH4 v Reunion for Mac
Hi Steve, Well, my topic has certainly stimulated some debate! Thanks for your very comprehensive response, it is well taken and much appreciated. Quite clearly, based on your response, you are light years ahead of me technically. I am only a user, whereas you are a user/developer, no contest!! Than...

Re: FH4 v Reunion for Mac
Hi Steve, Sorry I did not reply sooner but I have been abroad for a few days. First of all, I respect your views, though it does seem that you are rather scathing about all things Mac except the fact that it can run Windows in virtualisation faster than your Windows laptop! I do not wish to provide ...

Re: FH4 v Reunion for Mac
uktony Thanks for your input. However, I have decided like rclrocco to cut the umbilical cord with Windows. Having made the very expensive decision to move to Apple, it seemed to me that I wanted everything in the Apple format, otherwise I would not be gaining the benefits of my new computer. Like y...

Re: FH4 v Reunion for Mac
Hi Richard, I am not sure of my nephews Laptop Spec., but I know that he is an aficionado of Mac, so I doubt that it is under specced. Maybe my reasoning, is a combination of keeping the iMac 'pure' allied to cost. I would have to lay out probably £150 i.e. c£100 for XP or Windows 7 and another £50 ...

Re: FH4 v Reunion for Mac
Nick I am fairly new to the Mac, but as I understand it, the Mac hardware and the software to go with it, are all geared to operate with the Mac OSX which is the equivalent of Windows. Whilst Mac allows Windows to run on its hardware with Bootcamp or one of the emulators, VM Fusion or Parallels, the...

Re: FH4 v Reunion for Mac
Nick Thanks for your reply. I do not wish to go back and forth between FH4 and Reunion, nor do I want to use an emulator. I was simply trying to establish how much functionality, I would lose, if I moved to Reunion, for the sake of the convenience of having everything on one machine. If the loss is ...

Re: FH4 v Reunion for Mac
I am very happy with FH4, but have recently purchased an iMac i5. At the moment, I have to use my PC for genealogy, with everything else on the iMac. As FH4 does not have a Mac version I am reluctantly considering Reunion as an alternative. My questions are: Does anyone know how Reunion compares to ...

Media/Gedcom
This is probably a strange question, but is it possible to get items that are put into the Family Historian Project file as Media, converted into the GEDCOM file? The reason I ask, is that my iPOD Touch APP. Fam Viewer only recognises GEDCOM and therefore misses some useful information.

Re; Large media files
I have just come across a set of circumstances that I have not encountered before and wondered whether someone could advise me how to deal with it. Just recently I have come across a couple of relatives that have provided family history documentation. One was a 70 page document which was handwritten...

Nick's suggestion would be great but how far are we from it. In the meantime I have read the reviews on :- 1) Famviewer £8.99 2)Ged View £2.99 3) Shrubs £5.99 They are all read only, but the one characteristic that Shrubs over the others is the ability to make notes on individuals. If I want to take...

I was just about to post a thread when I saw this. Like the other interested parties, I would like to be able to carry my FH4 files around on my iPod Touch. So add my name to any poll.

Who should be included on a family Tree?
Thanks to all who have commented. They have all been extremely helpful.I always make reference to the source and would only include it if it is reliable, which in my particular case, it is.

Who should be included on a family Tree?
I know that this is pretty much, down to the individual, but I would welcome comments.I have just contacted a person who is related through marriage to two of my GGG Aunts. She has an enormous amount of relatives from those lines.Am I realistically entitled to add them to mine (subject of course to ...

V4 Upgrade now Flags missing
Bilko/Nick/Jane
Thanks for your help. It is as I thought another job to to do, which was already done under 3.1. It is the 'Icons' that are missing and I was not aware that I would have to re-do actions post v4. The experts seem to be aware of this but not, unfortunately, the laymen.

V4 Upgrade now Flags missing
Jane I know that it is early morning and I am not at my sharpest, but this suggests that I have got to put the flags back again, myself. This is something that I have spent a lot of time doing using v3.1 and now I have spent money to buy an upgrade, which asks me to do it again. Please tell me that ...

I have just noticed that there are some flags when I click on the 'Media' button, but still do not know why they are not on my charts?

Jane Thanks for the reply. All my charts were standard. So on that basis should they not be there? I am not sure what you mean by 'I suspect it's only the diagram flag settings which are missing the flags on the individuals should be fine.'How do I find the flags and how do I get them back on the dia...

V4 Upgrade now Flags missing
I know that someone else referred to missing flags but it did not help me. On upgrading to v4 from 3.1 I find that I have no census flags on my charts, which I did have under 3.1. As I have spent a considerable amount of time inserting them, I am anxious to know what has happened. I had assumed that...

Thanks for the info. Unfortunately, by 1912 my grandfather had married (1907)and had about 4 children. I think that he was a Drill Instructor, by then.

Controlling unentered data/ To-Do List
I have been unable to find anything on my problem, but it is so basic it must be there somewhere, so perhaps someone could point me in the right direction. I have accumulated a mass of data, which needs to be ratified before entry, and I find that I am missing things because more data comes in on to...
