Thank you Nick, that sounds reasonable. I have particular problems with my tree as it has become international with different systems for each country concerning official record keeping and laws on heritage. This makes me careful not to give any weight to some circumstances that might give the impre...

The pleasure is all mine! I will certainly send you a token of my appreciation as you suggested and add Amazon UK. On the last point I will also try and add Amazon FR which is my basic source for computer purchases but that may take time! One little question, about automatic selection of data, and th...

Just finished loading and transferring census data to FH. First I would like to thank everyone involved in the venture concerning ancestral data sources and the interface operations for some sterling work that is much appreciated by this person who has struggled over the years to write in all the in...

Embedding photo's
Many thanks that was a complete reply as I fitted into the stated framework! I had so many 'crosses' that I have started to reread in all that I can from one place and then branch out to other disks. Part of the photographic information is based on Google mapping of houses lived in and places where ...

I see that this subject has been dealt with by Jane and others. I was ready to pose the question but will now have to read about the new Product Structure instead. My reason for thinking of embedding my photographs etc. is that it would suit my particular situation where I have to think of handing o...

Completeness of 1861-91 Census
All of this starts with the transcriber and having entered over 6,000 names pertaining to a Cornish town I feel proud of my entries. It was not easy, but nothing worthwhle ever is, and my mistakes in the beginning made me feel like kicking myself. My mistakes were picked up by the checkers who were ...

I have, recently, started using ancestry.com uk again but found that I was being lead around 'the mulbery bush' and wasting time.
At the end I tried finding a BMD entry, of which I had all the information to hand, only to be told that the person did not exist.
I gave up!

Distributing a completed tree
I beg the question, 'what is a completed tree?' I have always considered that my tree has as many centres as there are persons and each one has her or his own tree. The tree for a person goes as far as he/she wishes and if I was going to send details to that person I would include (in the first inst...

Marriage cert as source?
Hello Tigersden, I think your question was to the point. Information sources, for me, can be anything or anybody. What I have been doing is scanning in any document and linking it to a person, documents that can be linked to several people is just divided and linked. A wedding photograph gives a cas...

Certified copies - a warning
Over the past few months I have had 20 or more certified copies all ordered online. Twice I thought I had found errors and I felt that the bods in the office delighted in being able to tell me I was wrong. One, where I could not possibly be wrong, has remained without a reply! Do they not realise th...

In the same manner this begs the question whether a relationship that has a legal definition can also be considered as a 'relation'.

Ancestry.co.uk - adds search of 1881
I have just started to transcribe a part of the 1871 census for Newlyn, Cornwall for FreeCen. I have learnt so much by just transcribing a few streets that I would suggest others should try it. FreeCen's help system leaves you in no doubt that you have their support. Have a go you will never regret ...

The title made me think thatwhat I had wanted to do was already covered. I now see that that is not the case. For reasons that I have difficulty to define I recently made the decision to add the surname JANE to an file in which all the Jane's would be unlinked - for the moment. The surname has occur...

As most of my research is in Cornwall - with a little run-over to the West Country - I bought the 1841 and 1861 census from Archive CD Books and they have proved invaluable but some of the paler pages can give you red-eye (non-photographic). I now await the issue of the 1871 census but again just fo...

Where to deposit all our family research?
My Family Tree has many ramifications including different languages - Cornish, French, Basque, Greek and Iraqui. I came to the conclusion that each 'family would receive 'their' version with linking Pluses to the nearest family that I have dealt with. Their requirement are different to mine but at l...

Census on CD Rom
Is it possible to buy a in a CD ROM form any of the census just for Cornwall say from 1921 back to 1841.
At the moment I have the 1841 and 1861 and I await the publication of the 1871 from Archives.
80percent of my searches are concerned with Cornwall.

I have just purchased software for converting PDF files to WORD format. This is version 1 and can be bought online from SYSTRAN.
If you order the CDROM be careful of the postal charge it can be 'heavy'.
Jane's idea is probably the best and the quickest.

Showing Full Names in Diagrams : Simon Orde
Had this problem this morning with my Basque/French family.
I simply added a dash '-' between two names and it printed properly.
It works well with my double name too.

I posted an item yesterday concerning using multimap for maps tied to births etc. I am not quite sure whether I should use the wish list or the forum but never mind I will learn. Seriously considering using multimap for maps and aerial views tied to birth places etc. As this seems to be an European operation-it gave me a map of an area outside Paris- and as my family includes persons from the French Basque region, Greece, France as well as the UK this seems like a valid opti...
