Re: Diagram with cut-off date for all information?
Thanks, Mike - that sounds like a feasible approach. I would envisage this being an occasional operation, for special purposes, such as distribution to relatives, rather than 'day to day' work so running on a copy of the project would be fine. Just a word on the motivation for this. I saw it intiall...

Re: Diagram with cut-off date for all information?
The concept is very simple but I can imagine there are issues in achieving it. I want to produce a diagram that would represent 'the present' at that date. E.g., if I choose say, 2 April 1911, then the diagram would represent only events up to that point, no individuals born after that date appear, ...

Diagram with cut-off date for all information?
Dear All
Apologies if this is covered already somewhere but I couldn't find anything...
Is there a straightforward way of producing a diagram (say, all descendants) where there is no information after a certain date, including anybody born after that date?
Thanks.

Re: Nationality in Canada Cenus
Thanks for the responses. The term 'Nationality' can have different shades of meaning these days, but looking at the original Canadian census forms, it seems clear that for 1901-1921, 'Nationality' on the census means nationality in the sense of citizenship and 'Origin' means racial or cultural orig...

Nationality in Canada Cenus
Having just tried the Canadian 1921 Census template from the downloads page, it appears that the 'Nationality' field from the census is creating an 'Origin' fact but the 'Origin' field is not creating a fact at all. This seems to be the same with the AS supplied 1901 and 1911 templates. This seems t...

Create new fact type from existing one.
Apologies if this is obvious/ already covered somewhere. Is there an easy way of creating a new fact type based on an existing one? For example, to make a new version of a fact type with perhaps just a few differences, rather than creating it from scratch, the equivalent of a 'duplicate' or save as....

How to update repository for multiple sources
Many thanks to Jane and Mike. I tried Mike's suggestion first which worked fine, then 'bit the bullet' and, as Jane implied, wrote a simple plugin to create a repository record and then run through all the sources to link them to it. I'd not tried writing plugins before. Having a computing backgroun...

How to update repository for multiple sources
I recently acquired a gedcom file that I want to use as a basis for a new project. It has many sources already included but I wanted to mark all these as being from the original file before I checked them and added my own source information. One way that occurred to me was to create a repository tha...

It's in the box of the spouse of the descendent, presumably because it shows why they're in the diagram. Makes sense if there are multiple spouses, too.

Error message when adding image to existing facts
Nick Walker said: Did the source you selected have an ID of 4? If so then this is entirely explained by a typing mistake in my code which will only happen with source id 4! It also explains the error message which doesn't make sense as you said. Yes! Source id = 4. Perhaps I should go and buy a lo...

Error message when adding image to existing facts
I'm trying to use the 'Add Images to Existing Sources' feature with census data using 'method 2'. I get a 'you can't choose images as there is more than one selected or associated with the source' error message when I try to add the image even though there are no images already associated with the a...

Descendant list to GEDCOM
I wondered if anyone knew of a method of converting a descendant list (in one of the standard formats) into a GEDCOM file. I've got a large example that it would be good to look at in FH without retyping. I did find this: http://www.ark-internet.com/products/GCU/intro.html which looked as if it woul...

Reintalling options
Nick, there are pros and cons whichever way you do it. As you say, putting it in the registry potentially makes it harder to back up. As there is a import/export function, why not automatically write it out when the program closes? Anyway, it's no big thing and thanks for your very useful piece of s...

Reintalling options
Thanks again, Mike.
I wonder why AS doesn't store the options file routinely along with all the other xml. At least it's better than Outlook 2007 and later which stores all the email account details only in the registry but doesn't have any import/export facility!

Hello
Does anyone know where AS keeps the 'Options' data. It doesn't seem to be amongst the 'Settings' etc. xml. I'm trying to reinstall with my old options. Thanks.

Restoring / Reinstalling Custom Tabs
Thanks Mike - problem now solved. I'd just copied over the 'Custom' subdirectories from 'Program Files', wrongly assuming that all the custom items were there. (The old disk is still there - I like to install a new OS on a new disk) I suppose it would be good to have a definitive list of where FH pu...

Yes, that's more or less ahat I've had to do. I'd hoped there might be an easier solution. It would be good if there was a 'add existing citations to new record' option.

Apologies if this is obvious / covered elsewhere but I'd be interested to know how people deal with the fact that AS deletes existing marriage citations. Generally this is undesireable but to avoid the loss seems to involve a lot of copy, paste and saving before using AS. Thanks.

Apologies if this is already covered somewhere but I couldn't find it... Is it possible, other than manually, to merge multiple facts of the same type?
