Yes you can open more than one, which I do, but if we were to be able to drag and drop, is that easier between two instances of FH or between two windows - I don't know how the programming would work!? Also it may be that having the ability to open two gedcom files in one instance of FH would allow ...

Make it easier to enter dates by accepting a wider

The decimal point does make a good alternative, I will have to see whether I can get used to that[smile]
However, it might still be quite useful to have an option in the properties box allowing the user to select the delimiter within dates...

Note window

It is possible to open the note window from the properties dialogue box and an extra window pops up which is resizeable etc. However, it is a window which takes and retains focus, not allowing you to do anything else in another window while it is open. I would like it to have the same property in th...

And another wild thought... I think that the merge and compare mechanism is fantastic, but there are times when you actually just wish to add lines you don't already have above and below your current tree. Therefore, assuming that the program now works in teh way described above, how about being abl...

Yes, that is what I now do, however it is slightly frustrating as date entry would be fastest on the numerical keypad, so having to move between numbers and alpha characters is slightly slower...

indication of tentative data

Sources will work for this, but it is necessary to consciously choose to look for tentative at a particular point in time. Ideally I would like a check box somewhere on the properties dialogue box which I could click to say that the information is tentative. A text scheme in the diagram could then p...

indication of tentative data

There are some occasions when it is useful to put into your tree data which is not fully researched, or is believed to be accurate. I would always rather mark this as tentative in some way, it would be useful to have this option within FH (quicker to get to than a custom attribute), and in particula...

Make it easier to enter dates by accepting a wider

I tried the same settings, and then read the manual! They relate to the format of dates as entered in a Gedcom from another program so that FH can recognise them as dates, not as I also first thought - to the format you wish to enter dates within FH. I wouldn't claim that it is the most intuitive fo...

Working with diagrams

I had a vision the other night! I remember the commento n the FH website: In designing Family Historian, our goal was to go much further than any family tree application had done up to then, in finding ways to allow users to see their data, and to work with data visually and graphically. For me this...

Thoughts on 2.3

Agree - the default should logically say married - could we perhaps add that to the wish list?

Presumably it would not be too difficult to change the blank to 'married'?

Some Comments from Simon 7/7/2002

Late but hopefully not irrelevant - I find the Merge & compare to be superb. I would much rather have that than the reports section... PS - for Dunc above, I am not sure that Windows has started to become reasonable until XP, and even then for its category of software it isn't as good as FH is for g...

Viewing diagram - didn't marry / no children

Just had a thought! Currently the standard attribute is against each individual - would it possibly be of more value against the marriage / relationship? Otherwise eg if the wife marries twice, how do you record 0 children against the second marriage while there were some from the first? Esp. if bot...

Didn't Marry / No Children

Jane, actually this is a good idea, there is also a count of marriages option as well, so both could be used with a '0' entry which is better than a check box which only offers a binary option. However, I still believe as per my other forum entry, that it would be useful to have a graphic indicator ...

Viewing diagram - didn't marry / no children

Agree, a custom attribute would work, I think though that as this is such a common addition to members of a tree, and for all users of FH it would be worth having it as a small tick box in the properties detail tab, which can be used easily. If one is adding an individual at a time it is not difficu...

parents - male / female option

not quite sure how to phrase the subject! Note the useful addition in 2.3 that when you create a child on the diagram you now have - new male / new female / linked, which reduces steps for generation of offspring. It would be useful to have the same when creating a parent in the property dialogue bo...

Make it easier to enter dates by accepting a wider

Jane, Sorry to post this here, but can't see this under processed, though it is on the wish list. Could you add to this a strong emphasis on being able to enter dates as numbers with spaces between, i.e. 3 4 1832 would be 3rd April 1832 in the UK or 4th of March 1832 in the USA (if there is concern ...

Viewing diagram - didn't marry / no children

Assuming that there were to be a method of noting that someone didn't marry / had no children, it would be useful to find a way in which this could show on the diagram. Ideal for the 'No Children' option would be to draw a double line under their details demonstrating that there is no further line.....

Didn't Marry / No Children

It would be lovely to have a method of identifying those in the database who didn't marry (no need to chase a spouse / children), or who didn't have children... A simple check box would work well. At the moment I give them a child with no sex identifier so that it appears in a different colour, and ...

Illegitimate Children - Diagram

When diagrams are drawn by hand it seems that the convention is for illegitimate children to be shown as descending by dotted line so that they are clearly identifiable.

It would be very useful to add this to diagrams.

Could we have an entry on teh relationship drop-down box for Illegitimate children, at the moment I am having to use 'de facto' but this is not the proper use of this option.
