Hello Mike.

I have carried out the process you outlined and the numbers are now deleted. I am not aware of setting up the custom id against those 146 families but I have tried to set up reports and queries in the distant past which is likely to be the cause.

I don't want to use the Automatic Internet Data Matching now available on version 6, I find it irritating and distracting and not very useful. Is there a way of turning it off?
