Re: Get Year from event when contains BEF, AFT etc
Dave, the fact is that Date values are potentially a complex data structure and need careful handling. Qualifiers like :YEAR only work for simple Date formats. See the Help for General Topics > Date Formats that illustrates how qualifiers behave. In the case of Before and After , etc, check the Date...

Re: Questions from TMG Refugee
The attached All Facts with Witness Role query will list facts where any of the first three Fact Witnesses have a Role that matches the user prompt. Select all the Fact Witness names in any one column that have a matching Role and hit the Delete key or use Edit > Delete to remove those Fact Witnesse...

Re: possible to delete field definitions?
Teresa, almost all changes to Source Templates should start with Tools > Source Template Definitions... There you can View/Edit... each template and use the big red X to delete Fields. Unfortunately, the usual Save and Compare/Sync with Source Template Record process does not handle deletion of Fiel...

Re: Should I Eliminate Most Witness Facts?
Yes, that makes sense.
If you have a lot of those 'superfluous' Fact Witnesses, then they can be bulk deleted via a suitable custom Query.
We can advise how to build such a Query.

Re: FH 6.2
The FHUG Knowledge Base advice is in Family Historian Installation Problems under Error 126: DLL Maybe Missing, Corrupt or Wrong Version. As Mark says, copy the CD to a USB memory stick and install from that instead. As a matter of interest, how did you install that FH V6.2 CD on this PC originally ...

Re: Should I Eliminate Most Witness Facts?
FH is flexible enough to accommodate a variety of options to suit your preference. In 20749|Replacing Witnesses with Census Facts after RM8 to FH7 Import you asked about Census shared Fact Witnesses. It is generally advised that each household member has their own Census Event instead of using share...

Re: Fact Set file structure
Apart from noticing the numbers, I have ignored them. The Extended Set has probably not been updated since it was introduced many years ago in FH V6, whereas new facts have been added to the FH V7 Fact Sets. I've not noticed any obvious features that differ between versions. I think some other custo...

Re: Source Records
John, you can more easily use the Tools > Work with Data > Addresses... command and Edit... the entries there. If you hold down the Alt key on your keyboard while you click on a Part 2 or Part 3 column heading, that will bring long Addresses to the top where you can then Edit... each one very easily.

Re: Audit RM Direct Import plugin
There appear to be two misnomers there! Firstly, the quoted "Superfluous sort dates..." only apply where Range Dates are used and I doubt if any Census event uses Range Dates. Secondly, there is absolutely no problem with a Sort Date of the year 3850 or 3860 . They are not "free-form dates". FH is p...

Re: TNG and FH event witnesses standoff
You have a valid point regarding the word 'Witness'. It is coined by FH but does confuse users. Most other products use the term 'Shared Fact' that is consistent with the _SHAR tag. Let me think about an alternative. However, did you know that in the Export Gedcom File plugin you can customise the W...

Re: TNG and FH event witnesses standoff
Sorry, but that is not a fair comparison. The only reasonable comparison is between the FH Facts tab and TNG Personal Information tab. Looking at the Property Box Main tab of a Principal in FH also tells you nothing about the facts with fact witnesses. It is not until the Facts tab is viewed that th...

Re: TNG and FH event witnesses standoff
The plugin creates them because that is the option you chose. It is trying to recreate the Fact Witness similar to the FH Facts tab entry for a Fact Witness. i.e. It is similar to the Principal Fact but from the Fact Witness perspective. I would prefer that TNG worked like FH and other products that...

There are two ways to perform quoting here. In the other person's posting click the double quotes ‘‘ to the right of the top right toolbar. That includes the person's name and the date of posting. Alternatively, in your reply, click the double quotes ‘‘ after U in the toolbar to get quote BBCodes. T...

Re: Exporting Gedcom in FH7
No, you are not missing anything. FH V7 no longer produces that prompt. You have two alternative workarounds: Note the folder path where the GEDCOM file is exported. Use the File > Gedcom File Tasks > Open Gedcom File... command or use keyboard Ctrl+O to open that GEDCOM. Instead of the File > Expor...

These guys have impor...
