Mervyn, if Java can't run in a browser (as I've stated) there is no extension running, so there is no risk?

Re: 'Entry Date' in citations

Tony, that is indeed welcome news, and as you say, better late than never. However, unless there are other recent changes, that may not be the only piece of advice to benefit from amendment. There are comments on the booklet Where to Record It; in Family Historian throughout the 16865|Source help th...

Re: Java Pros and Cons

@DonF - Forgive my ignorance, but what is the difference between JRE and JDK ? Are they compatible? Version 8 is the latest JRE and all the later Java versions are only JDK . I know JRE = Java Runtime Environment and JDK = Java Development Kit but is that significant? If Java cannot run in any Web B...

Re: Ancestris versus Family Historian

The Java Runtime Environment ( JRE ) will not run in most current browsers as they they don't support the NPAPI protocol, and in the Java Control Panel the Enable Java content for browser and Web Start applications can be unticked, but Ancestris still runs. The 17034|Java Pros and Cons are discussed...

Re: Ancestris versus Family Historian

As I said before, all current popular browsers (Firefox, Chrome, Edge) CANNOT run Java even if enabled in the Java Control Panel because they do NOT support NPAPI that is essential to running Java. I also only run Ancestris (with Java) in a User Account and not an Admin account. Obviously it is up t...

Why not report the problem to FMP and eventually they should correct the transcription?
I have successfully had FMP transcripts corrected.

Re: Ancestris versus Family Historian

As far as I can tell Java Version 8 Update 221 Release date July 16, 2019 is the latest JRE, and is the one recommended for Ancestris and the one that I am using. It does not run in my browsers.
What version is later?

Java Pros and Cons

This thread picks up the discussion on 17033|Ancestris versus Family Historian regarding Java risks. The Java Runtime Environment ( JRE ) is not the same as Java Script ( JS ). Re: Export Gedcom Plugin - Ancestral Quest

Ancestris is being updated by the developers, and is extremely GEDCOM 5.5 & Draft 5.5.1 compliant. See 17033|Ancestris versus Family Historian for further features. For the moment, to export from FH to Ancestris use the Export Gedcom File modes for (Std) Standard GEDCOM 5.5 or for (Sdr) Standard GE...

Ancestris versus Family Historian

One of the unique selling points of FH is its GEDCOM 5.5 compliance. I recently discovered Ancestris that also claims 100% GEDCOM 5.5 and Draft 5.5.1 compliance! My tests suggest that those claims are almost completely justified (a few minor issues are currently being fixed). It uses the GEDCOM file...

Re: I Quit FH for TMG

I was commenting on Don's assertion that " TMG uses the GEDCOM term Tag, rather than FH's non-GEDCOM term 'Fact' and justifying the FH use of Fact . You are confirming that TMG is not using Tag in the context of GEDCOM. I assert that FH should not use the term Tag instead of Fact because they are no...

Re: sorting tables by v

Use a separate sort(a,b) function, so you can debug it just like any other function. function sort(a,b) if a == nil then zz = 0 -- break here to detect local 'a' (a nil value) end local ans = a.KLIST .. ' ' .. dir .. ' ' .. b.KLIST return ans -- break here to see what is returned end table.sort(USRI...

I spoke too soon earlier.
Now I cannot Login to the KB at all (similar to last Friday).
The Login dialogue says Sorry, username or password was wrong.
Does anyone else have that problem?

Does it need reporting to Jane, or is it just a temporary glitch?

Re: sorting tables by v

I gave you the interim solution a week ago, but you ignored it. Presumably, since they are for fhOutputResultSetColumn , all the separate tables must be the same length. So copy them all into one record table and sort that using SortData("Rid","Name","Sex") as explained yesterday. local tblData = { ...

On FindMyPast it only holds the Norton Lindsey parish records (DR0122/1) and not the Claverdon ones. The baptisms are recorded on pages 25, 27 & 29 respectively of the same records book. On the images it allows earlier & later pages of the book to be reviewed. Can you do the same on Ancestry for the...

Re: sorting tables by v

Assuming tblName does not contain tables then this works:

Code: Select all

if #tbl == 4 then
	case = 1
elseif #tbl == 1 and type(tbl[1]) == "table" then
	case = 2
elseif #tbl == 0 or type(tbl[1]) ~= "table" then
	case = 3
else
	case = unknown
end
