Re: Map Life Facts error message

I have looked back at the script in old versions of the Plugin as far as V2.1 in 2012 and the 'problem' area has not changed since, so would have suffered from the same error with long Place names. The attached Map Life Facts Plugin Version 4.5.2 Date 18 Oct 2019 ZIP file has a final workaround. It ...

Re: Can I produce a copy of a Descendent family tree?

OK, so I've moved this to the FH General Usage Forum as it is not to do with Importing and Exporting to other products. It seems you want to produce a Descendant Diagram in PDF format, which is straightforward. Select the earliest ancestor Individual record you want to start from. Click the Descenda...

Re: Map Life Facts error message

I should have asked before, but were those very long Place names added between using " an old version of Map Life Facts on old laptop some time ago " and using V4.5 recently? i.e. They only existed for Map Life Facts V4.5 recently and not for the old version some time ago. The reason I ask is I beli...

Re: 32bit or 64 bit AS

Since some of your data is in Dropbox, the migration process is simplified, but do ask for details.

However, I suspect custom Diagrams, Reports, Queries, Fact Type Definitions, Plugins, etc, etc, are NOT saved in Dropbox and need to be handled carefully.

Re: Adding person to census.

OK, so the method of adding the sister-in-law/visitor is straightforward. I assume you have created an Individual record for her and linked her to her husband the same as any married couple. If not, then do that first. Locate any other member of the household in that Census , and in their Property B...

Re: Map Life Facts error message

No need to apologise. Testing with those long (greater than 254 character) Place names revealed the problem. The GUI IUP Library used to build the user interface, truncates those long text strings. I have designed a crude workaround that should work in all but very unusual cases. Let me test it furt...

Re: Adding person to census.

Paula, it is not too difficult, but before giving precise details we need to know what style of Source Citations you use for Census records captured via AS . Are you using AS with its default Tools > Options > Census settings of Method 1 (source per household) ? Your Source record Title would be qui...

Re: Occupation/Voluntary roles

I would use Occupation as in its loosest sense that includes: position, post, vocation, calling, etc.
The Cambridge English Dictionary says "Occupation: a person's job; a regular activity or hobby;"
Others have similar broad definitions.

Re: Map Life Facts

I did make that change, but had not yet published it in the Plugin Store . However, the diagnostic V4.5.1 attached today to the 17119|Map Life Facts error message thread should contain the fix, and the diagnostic is very unlikely to impact you. So give that a whirl and let me know if it solves your ...

Re: Map Life Facts error message

Kim, please try the Plugin V4.5.1 attached, but you must extract it from the ZIP file (do you know how to do that?) If necessary you can always re-install Map Life Facts V4.5 from the Plugin Store . When you run V4.5.1 and it encounters the error, it should produce a popup window with purple text sa...

Re: Can I produce a copy of a Descendent family tree?

An important consideration is how your family recipient hopes to use the GEDCOM file. Do they have a genealogy product they intend to use to import the GEDCOM file? Are there any associated Media image files that need to accompany the GEDCOM file? Full details are given in how_to:exporting_gedcom_wi...

Re: 32bit or 64 bit AS

I stand by what I said. Although maybe could have been phrased better. That is why I added the FYI:... If running 32-bit Windows you can only install 32-bit applications which includes AS and FH . You cannot install 64-bit applications into 32-bit Windows . If running 64-bit Windows you can install ...

Re: Toolbar Font Size

Unfortunately, FH V5 is 5 years old and pre-dates Windows 10 and modern high resolution screens. You will either have to adjust Windows 10 such as Start > Settings > Display > Scale and Layout that affects all applications, or upgrade to FH V6.2.7 that is better at handling high resolution screens a...

Re: 32bit or 64 bit AS

It does not really matter Jenny. The only rule is that 32-bit AS must be installed in a 32-bit version of Windows . The 32-bit AS will work just fine, the same as the 32-bit FH , in 64-bit version of Windows . But if you like you can uninstall the 32-bit AS and install the 64-bit AS . I presume you ...

Re: Printing Family Tree

It sounds like you have a Top-down Orientation, and the Diagram is actually very wide and narrow. This is because there are 22 child boxes side by side, and boxes are wider than they all tall. Try setting Diagram > Options > General tab Orientation: Left-right which should make it a bit squarer. Als...

Re: Save chart -tree missing?

Agreed that it is a much more error prone option. I cannot see where the .fh_proj file links to the GEDCOM .ged file? However, I had not realised that several custom/preference settings now reside in the .fh_proj file. Is this the beginnings of moving such settings out of the Registry ? There now se...

Re: Save chart -tree missing?

I'm not sure why using Windows File Explorer to rename a Project would upset Saved Charts (providing all the correct folders & files are altered correctly). It is just the same as using the FH Rename Project command. I have just renamed a Project using both methods and its Saved Charts seem OK, so a...

Welcome to the FHUG David. I have moved your posting to the FH General Usage forum because it is not a Wish List Request for a new feature. What exactly do you mean by empty media folders?
Do you mean sub-folders within the Project's Media folder?
If so then yes, they can be deleted just like any other Windows File Explorer folder.

Re: Save chart -tree missing?

A screenshot would help, as not sure what you mean by media/images. Have you in any way disrupted the Diagram Root person? Renumbered Individual Record Id, Merged Projects, Deleted Individuals, anything that upsets that key person. Does it rely on a custom Diagram or Text Scheme that is no longer on...
