Re: Highlight complete selected row in Records Window

Playing devils advocate, why not move the Property Box or use the Records Window scroll bars so all the required data is shown to one side, or even above or below, the Property Box . You could even align the top edge of the Property Box window just below the Records Window row of interest and so foc...

Re: uncategorised data

As a matter of interest, where have those Uncategorised Data Fields ( UDF ) originated? The general advice is given in how_to:handling_unrecognised_data_fields|> Handling Uncategorised Data Fields (UDF) . However, in this case there are only two records involved, so can be adjusted manually. If you ...

Re: Highlight complete selected row in Records Window

If the Lock left most column on Records Window (Individual Records) (17299) were implemented, would you still need this highlight selected row feature?

Re: Lock left most column on Records Window (Individual Records)

Welcome to the FHUG Demetrius.

There already is Wish List entry Ref 290 Lock the Column(s) in Records Window that you can Vote for.

May I suggest that before posting your request here, could you please check the Wish List entries to see if it has already been requested.

Re: Research Planner Version 2 -- request for beta testing

Yes, the revised wording works well. Regarding Plugin versions tested in the Forums and then published in the Plugin Store , there is one slight niggle. The Last Updated Date of the version in the Forums , the Last Updated Date of the one in the Plugin Store , and the Updated Date shown in the Detai...

Yes, that works well too in many cases, but needs the PDF file(s) to be sent to accompany published Reports, etc.

Re: Research Planner Version 2 -- request for beta testing

Helen, that is a really useful update. Very few Plugins in the Store use three part Version numbering, and I wonder if we can advise that the PATCH level can be disregarded by authors of simple Plugins that are unlikely to need that much refinement? Personally, I reserve the PATCH level for my inter...

Re: Linking to an MS Word doc

Yes, that is good advice for any non-image document files (PDF, DOCX, etc), especially if you intend to publish or distribute your data elsewhere. For example, you may be sending your GEDCOM and Media to someone who does not have a word-processor installed. Maybe you want to produce a Report or a Bo...

Re: Linking to an MS Word doc

Your approach is absolutely correct. You can attach any type of file as Media but only image files (JPG, PNG, GIF, TIF) will get displayed in Diagrams or Reports . The others can only be viewed by clicking their icon or the triangular Open in Editor/Player button in a Media window, and in the case o...

Re: Mapping places from new, large TMG project

Take a look at glossary:places|> Places and Addresses that answers some of your questions. The concept of Place and Address fields is derived from the GEDCOM specification that FH supports. However, GEDCOM dates from the 1990's long before geocoding was popular. How people use those fields is largel...

Re: Charts - straight lines? Snap to grid?

I agree that kinks are sometimes annoying and difficult to realign. However, those double kinks only affect a minority of the lines. Snap to grid would simplify the realignment process. There is no point in starting a new Wish List entry on the same topic. It will only dilute whatever Votes there ar...

Re: Charts - straight lines? Snap to grid?

OK, you can get a kind of kink, but only one descendant line is affected at a time.
Apart from sliding sideways, all the rest stay put, and never automatically introduce kinks.
That is dramatically more manageable than with Fork Style, where all the other lines move around too.

Re: Mapping places from new, large TMG project

Geocoding is something of a dark art, especially for genealogy where the older place names don't exist on modern maps. It depends on the geocoder used, and some are better than others, but varying costs are involved. As personal users we can use the Google Maps geocoder for free, but businesses like...

Re: Charts - straight lines? Snap to grid?

Ah right, that is because you've chosen Diagram > Options > General and unticked Use Fork Style for Lines... . If you tick that, which is the default, you will have no kinked lines, but there will be fewer movement options. But generally you are correct that some extra features like snap to grid, et...

Re: Charts - straight lines? Snap to grid?

If you really are creating a simple Ancestor Diagram it should not be possible to get kinks, so try that.
Maybe you are creating an All Relatives Diagram that only shows an ancestor subtree, and can get complicated.

Re: Query for source certainty assessment

There are various possible solutions depending on exactly what yo...

Nobody else has suggested anything different until you reported your cancellation issue, which I assume is abnormal.

Has anyone else following this thread have anything to add?

Re: Map Life Facts apparently cancelled

Thank you for those nuggets of information. They vaguely ring a bell, but the journey started so long ago that I'd forgotten the details. Re: Mapping places from new, large TMG project

That is great advice Bob, but Lynn has 22,000 people and I suspect nearly as many Place records, so doing each by hand would take her a long time. I have looked at the geocoding of Newport, Newport Co., RI and St. Louis, MO . Because I am in the UK, the FH Map Window initially plotted Newport in Car...

Re: Mapping places from new, large TMG project

Lynn, could you please try Colin's suggestion of switching off and rebooting your router to get a new IP address. Does that allow you to geocode a bunch more Place names without waiting 24 hours? It is only with new users like you, who have thousands of Place names, that we get to experiment with th...

Re: Research Planner Version 2 -- request for beta testing

Yes, the Plugin Store settings allow a minimum FH Version to be specified to three digits like 5.0.9 or 6.2.7 . The Plugin script written by the author can check the current FH Version to three digits and apply any rules they like. So for example Research Planner FH7 could set a minimum of 7.0.0 . W...

Yes, I see ~ it will be interesting to see if that works, or if the quota is tied to some FH licence code, etc. ( The quotas on the Google Maps Geocoder are tied to the Google Account. ) I forgot to say that setting Preferences does not force the geocoder to use a particular country.
