Re: Adding birth/Marriage/Death certs to individuals

Yes of course, these are fundamentally sources and you should be entering them as such. Take a look at how_to:recording_details_from_a_birth_certificate|> Recording from a Birth Certificate to start you off. Once you are confident with how you want to record the information, you could consider using...

I see why I have not experimented with it, it needs Java. For me that makes it a non-starter.

Re: Same sex marriage in church in 1902????

Don't worry, it's easy to get blinkered especially when faced with something odd.

I spent ages trying to find someone in India the other day, and got the person I was researching to check with his father and it turns out she was probably born in Armenia!

On the media window you can select the broken thumbnail and press the delete key to remove it, FH will "tidy up" any links to other records.

Re: pictures

That suggests some of your media was outside of your Project folder.

First copy over all the missing media or if you think you have already done so use the "Tools>External File Links" option from the menu and the Auto-Repair option to search your hard drive for the media.

Re: FHUG on the move

It seems to be a problem in the theme I have paid for the support option and passed it on to them to see if they can fix it.

For most people it only seems to occur on Chrome browsers.

Re: Auto Repair Links

1. Make a FULL backup of your Project
2. Use the Check and Repair Media Links to tidy up the links

You do seem to have lots of folders within your media folder so you might also want to tidy them up a bit and the use the Auto repair to find them again.

That's very strange - I just tested the option with my "base user" and got the edit buttons just fine.

Re: FHUG on the move

If you have required changes please email them to admin @ fhug.org.uk and I will build a list to look at when I have time. You can change the default skin the user control panel, I had just turned it off while testing. Please note I will not be making any changes to the pro skin so the newer search ...

So I have had to upgrade to the latest version, which has lost some of the customisation which I have do...

Re: FHUG website slow

I have asked the ISP to look at the problem, but I suspect I will need to look for new hosting. However this is a major task for me as I need to research and find new hosting and organise the site move all of which will take many hours and I will need to pay for replacement hosting.

Re: OSM Roads map disappeared?

It's possible the host is offline at the moment, Calico don't host the data they use a 3rd party map service.

Your old PC probably has the maps cached in the map folder of program data

Re: Map Window Geocoding

In general the Geocode likes real place names, so CANADA, NORWAY, UNITED KINGDOM will work correctly, but unless you use the official 2 letter codes, other short values won't, if you want to keep your custom values, use the Standardised Place name field to put in the proper country name.

Re: Diagram page numbers

There are a few options the first is to add a diagram to a book and this can include page numbers. Another option is to print to Nova PDF and use the Watermark tab of the Nova PDF printer to add a page number using the Macro for page numbers. If however what you want to do is tape the pages together...

Re: Given Names

Use GIVEN_ALL

A good way to view all the qualifiers is to use data reference prompt to select the field and check the text at the base which explains the option.

I am with Mike on your use of Newspapers as individuals, but one thing with FH it's accommodating of different ways of working.

Re: Query on a parameter that can be present or not

You could add a "dummy" line at the top for each search value for example
Add If =Text(%INDI.NOTE[1000]%) matches ['Status']
with your default value

Re: Family Historian Icons

You can set the size for the main tool bar icons using Tools>Preferences and the Display tab and select Large Icons.

You can also optimise many of the colours in FH on this tab.

There is no way to change the colour of the icons, but you could try increasing the contrast on your monitor in general.
