Re: Where does Insertion point go?

No fields on the property box take focus until you click into the first input field, this is the same if you click on an existing fact or add one. My feeling is this is best as you need to select the field to start editing. If it did something different on Add it could be confusing to some.

Re: USB didn't match

Just to clarify even more, My History are a reseller of Family Historian they are not the authors of the program or anything to do with the user group. If you have your CD and licence sheet still if you contact Calico Pie support support@family-historian.co.uk including a photo or scan of your licen...

Re: USB didn't match

Family Historian is not normally available on a USB from Calico Pie, where did you get your USB from? Who are you calling? If you needed a copy for a device without a CD drive why did you not simply purchase a download licence for V6. If you want to copy your Data to a new computer which you have in...

Re: Census icons not showing on diagrams

You can't put icons in the boxes, but you can have two lines.

If you are using flags to control the icons, you can add a tab to the property box to show all the flags and the status of the flags.

Re: How to delete ancestors older than a certain generation or age

I suggest you write a custom query to select your Grandparents back 4 generations then add all the descendants of those already in the query, you might then want to remove all living people other than yourself if you are posting the information to multiple sites and do not have all the living person...

Re: Label Printing

A thought on this one, you did realise you can create manual charts in FH with the boxes linked to data in your tree, so you could reproduce your working charts and pull all the data in directly?

Also don't forget the Descendant outline report which is a good choice for compact reporting.

Re: New Source Record

As far as I can see V6 does not default a type it will just appear in the dropdown list. Items are shown in the list if they exist in a source. If you go to Tools>Work With Data>Source Types you can see which record you have with that type. There are plenty of Queries to list Census by date in the K...

It's not an error I have seen.

If you can do a screen shot of the error box, it would help. Also at the point that the box appears is Family Historian still listed in the Task Manager?

Looking at the list the currently recorded Birth date is Q4 1889, so I suspect AS is comparing to the currently recorded date and not the date you entered.

That looks like the Record List window, you would get on better if you configure a Query, as a query is capable of generating a report, you also have the options to hide columns.

Re: Dated Notes

I have a miscellaneous event which has a sentence template of {note}, this can be dated and sourced and appears in the correct place in a narrative or timeline. This is easy and flexible. I don't use normal notes very much at all as I tend to attach notes to the events they pertain to. I also have a...

Re: Diagram showing cause and age of death

Just as an aside you have not used the Cause of Death sub field against the Death, but rather created a custom fact for the information, so make sure you pick up your custom fact and not the normal cause of death from the Death Fact.

I am not sure if the mega tree number has replaced the LDS Ancestral File Reference, if not you could use that field to record it. You can access it from the All tab or add it to your Property box if you want to use it regularly.

Re: Dealing with two or more notes in a fact

As usual for these sorts of problems you need to use a query.

I have attached a query which will list all the facts in your database which have a second note. Once you have added the text to the first note, if needed, just select the cell in the result set for the 2nd note and press the delete key.

Re: Possible to backtrack edits in database?

It's not possible to create a list, but you can undo changes in a single session, using the Edit menu. You can see which records have been changed on the Records list by sorting by last changed date Finally you could restore a backup of your Project to a new Project name and then use the File>Merge ...

Do you put "Registry Office" in the address or in another field. If it's in the address field you can create a Fact Query and filter on marriage and that the address field contains Registry Office. or as Registry office is unlikely to occur anywhere else just use the Find option to search for it and...
