Is there a quick way of linking a picture to multiple records? The only way I know is to add link back to the original in my c:drive for every individual. That takes time with census records! Cannot find an answer to this on the forum and so hoping someone can help me. Thanks

Use Ancestral Sources to enter your census (and other events), it will link the media to the people for you.

See http://www.fhug.org.uk/wiki/doku.php?id ... rces:index

and you can add multiple pictures (e.g. a census image for a person/family that goes over two pages).

It actually links the media to the source record, and that source record is in turn linked to the individuals.

As David says, it is recommended that you use the Ancestral Sources program to enter census data (and optionally other types of data) as it takes a lot of the work out of creating and linking Source Records and Multimedia Records.

Even if you don’t use Ancestral Sources, the recommended method is not to link a census image direct to the individual, or even to the individual’s census fact (which requires a different technique), but to a Source record for the census event. The Source record is then cited multiple times, by each of the census facts and by any other facts such as occupation, age, birthplace, which are derived from it.

In the case of other images, such as a group photo which you might want to link to several individuals, there should still not be multiple links to the image file on your C drive. There should be just one link from that image file to a Multimedia Record in FH, and then multiple links from that Multimedia record to different individuals.

So to answer your original question, although it is not appropriate for census images, the quickest way to link one Multimedia Record to several individuals is to open the Multimedia Window to view that record. Then click on the Media Link Tool button in the toolbar (it looks like a short section of chain links with a green circle containing a white cross). This will add a Media Link Tool list in the left hand panel of the Multimedia window. You can now select each person in turn and click either ‘Add Frame Link to...’ or ‘Add Simple Link to...’. You still have to link them one at a time, but it is quite quick. For more information, search the Help files for The Media Window and scroll down to List Pane Tab2: The Media Link Tool.
