* Full Dates vs. Year Only
Full Dates vs. Year Only
Is it possible to display full dates of birth/dates of death for deceased people only. For living, show only birth year?

Re: Full Dates vs. Year Only
Welcome to the FHUG.
Yes, that should be possible by creating a custom Diagram Text Scheme.
The crux decision is how to determine whether a person is living or not.
The easiest way is to ensure all the living people have a Living Record Flag attached.
The reason that makes it easy is that each Diagram Text Scheme Item has a built-in test for Record Flags.
So the basic process is to use the Diagram > Options > Text tab, select the most appropriate Text Scheme, and click the Clone... button to create a custom copy, then use the Edit Text Scheme... button.
Create a copy of the Birth Item and make one conditional on the Living Flag being set and the other on the Living Flag not being set.
Finally, adjust the Date of the first one to only display the Year.
If you need more specific details then ask again.
If you need to know how to add the Living Record Flag to all living people then ask again.
If you want to avoid using the lIving Record Flag and just test whether a Death Event exists instead then ask again.

Re: Full Dates vs. Year Only
Thank you for the quick response. It makes sense. However, I'm not a computer programmer and can't find/understand the syntax to do the conditional formula as you suggest.
I'm assuming it's something along the lines of IF (Living) display (Birth Year), ELSE, display (Birth full). At current, I don't understand the operators being used in this software. Does anyone have an example of what this should look like in the custom text scheme?
Many thanks, I've been spending hours trying to sort this out, and can't get there ...

Re: Full Dates vs. Year Only
No computer programming is required. Don't spend so long struggling - just ask.
As I said, the Items have a built-in test for Record Flags.
You need two Birth Items one for flag set and one for not set.
In the Template replace the C in CT by Y to display the Year instead of a Compact date.
See the Help for the =FactText(...) function for that explanation.
