Re: Problem with Map Life Facts

Sorry about that Bill.
I don't know how that bug got overlooked and has existed so long undetected.
However, it only affected deleting the Address ~ Place database, and not the Place only or Address only.
Try the attached ZIP file for Map Life Facts Plugin Version 3.9.2 Date 24 Mar 2017.

Getting the Most From Family Historian Book

There is now a how_to:family_historian_documentation#getting_the_most_from_family_historian_comparison|> Getting the Most From Family Historian Comparison of V5 versus V6 Chapters. However, apart from chapter titles, there is little detail about extra advice or other differences between the two vers...

Re: hebrew

Regarding person Names perhaps you could make the Cyrillic name the Primary Name for both Given and Surname , and put the Roman western name as an Alternate Name . When producing Reports and Diagrams both the Primary Name and Alternate Name are included by default or easily added. With Place names p...

Re: hebrew

To further the discussion you need to be more precise about which Name fields you are using. e.g. Marlah /מארלה גולל'ה/ Gollin has the Hebrew part as the Surname and the Roman parts as Forename and Suffix . Interestingly, this format presents the Name in the same way in all parts of all Reports that...

Use the filters I posted.
The first filter excludes everyone who has a Father.
The second filter excludes everyone from that list who has a Mother.
So what is left is people with neither.

Re: Tutorial Files Missing

There should be few problems with importing V5 into V6 and then merging. Use the KB advice for importing from a web based product into V6 . There is both specific advice for certain products, and generic advice to repair common residual problems. Once it is neat & tidy then you can merge, but be...

Re: Progenitor, Finding

I think you need to define precisely what you mean by "progenitor". One definition is "an ancestor or parent". But ancestor of who? File root or anyone else? Perhaps you mean anyone who has children. Perhaps you mean earliest progenitors who themselves have no ancestors. There ar...

Re: Map Life Facts question regarding use of brackets

Bill, that is a very good question, and I was looking for the answer too. The Plugin is designed to detect search strings that are entirely white space and punctuation characters (such as [[ and ]] ). For those, it automatically forces Part Words search mode, because they are NOT words. This is beca...

Re: Second spouse printing before first spouse on Narrative Reprt

Try and remember how long you took to become familiar with FTM and devote that much time to FH starting with the features for newcomers. It is a common mistake for new users to plunge in and start using FH extensively only to later wish they had spent a bit longer understanding its features and have...

Re: Tutorial Files Missing

Someone with the FH V6 Book can confirm, but I suspect its Chapter 19. Projects: Compare, Merge, Split, Copy & Export is much the same as the FH V5 Book in Chapter 15. Compare, Merge, Split, Copy and Export GEDCOM Files . See also glossary:merge_compare_files|> Merge/Compare File and follow its ...

Re: Map Life Facts question regarding use of brackets

Some users employ the [[ ... ]] format in Address fields so that part is automatically excluded in Reports to avoid duplication with Place field contents. The Plugin currently excludes any part enclosed in " string quotes " . So this seems to work which combines the two mechanisms: Provide...

Re: Address / Place in Maps

Bob, the Place locations in the Plugin are coloured coded according to their FH Status . Tentative = Plotted non-Tentative = Defined Blocked = No Plot Unplotted = Invalid / NoData The Plugin does NOT geocode non-Tentative = Defined locations unless you specifically tell it to do so. Even if you ask ...

Re: Adding Dates to a Query

Marilyn, this thread is raising a number of points you should consider. 1) Record Id Lorna's advice about Record Id is spot on. Notice how the Standard Query > All Individuals lists every Record Id . If you continue updating your spreadsheet I suggest you include a column for Record Id that uniquely...

The Abbey plots in my screenshots are entirely automatically geocoded by the Plugin, and automatically updated into the FH Map Window. I was simply pointing out that it can be nudged in the Plugin in a similar way that it can be dragged in the FH Map Window, and either will update the other.

Re: Second spouse printing before first spouse on Narrative Reprt

Welcome to the FHUG George. Those spouses are probably not in date order in the database. You say they appear OK in Focus Window but I suspect they are in reverse order there too. The simplest solution to correct that and other similar chronological errors is to use Tools > Re-order Out-of-Sequence ...

Re: hebrew

Yes, the FH database is a Gedcom text file.
But the Hebrew Name is only saved once in that file.
So that does not explain why that solitary Name appears both forwards and backwards in different places of the same Report.

Re: Set Individual as Deceased

It simply confirms that the otherwise empty Event should not be purged. It does not apply to Events with subsidiary details. Since it...

Re: Set Individual as Deceased

The Gedcom standard is not flawed, because as I said it does NOT specify Flags at all. If the Living flag were tri-state then it would have to be saved in the Gedcom as tri-state, otherwise when you next open the Project the tri-state value will have been reduced to two-state, because the Gedcom is ...
